“Taking the contrarian road to deckbuilding is difficult to do—not because of the work required to prepare, but because you will always be inclined to follow the majority. Why try so hard to build a new deck that is unproven when you can just copy a deck and get proven results? The funny thing is, most people rarely get those “proven” results.”  —Bryan Camareno

http://www.deckstudio.net/

Not as many people as I thought know about Deck Studio, but they should. I was surprised by the number of people who thought this was a program that built a deck for you. For some reason, a few players got into their head that "deck builders" were programs that did this. Can't imagine why or how something like that would work or why anyone would think that, but I digress.

I've only recently owned a computer that could support Deck Studio (my old comp was ancient of days) but this is a greant program for constructing a deck from scratch, verifying your deck card count, legality against both types of formats, legality against special cases and creating a deck list that you can just copy and paste into a text file or forum. It also has analyzation tools that let you know what your initial draws would be and how often you'd pull the cards your going to need.

Sure, some of this you can do in YVD, but this is a much more user friendly format and has options for saving comments and the deck name and creator, and a special feature that copies all of that in one click. In addition, it has a import feature that lets you move your constructed deck into YVD.

Plus, it's free, so you might as well try it out for yourself. I was skeptical of what Deck Studio had to offer me as well, and I sort of WORK for Empyre Group. LOL. But it turned out to be a great product and well worth the download.

One note, there are some forums up on the Deck Studio site as well to help with technical issues and to announce updates.

The current page is hard to find the link, but you can hit it up by http://www.deckstudio.net/forums

I finally got around to downloading Deck Studio and I really like it. The only thing about it that I'm not too impressed is on the deck simulation, but at the same time I'm glad it's there.

I was wondering if there were plans on allowing more commands for the deck simulator? For instance, being able to take cards out of the deck so that when you draw again, that card won't be drawn? To simulate playing cards like reinforcement of the army, or toon table of contents. It would also be nice to place cards in the graveyard + RFG, as well as do a "Check" to help you remember what cards are left in the deck, what cards are still in hand, what cards are in the GY +RFG. This way it could be more of a simulation and people could bounce their IRL decks up against other people's decks using Deck Studio.

Well, to simulate having used cards like Toon Table of Contents, just draw another card.  It's all shuffled anyway.

Deck Studio wasn't designed (as far as I'm aware) to be a Duel simulator.  It's supposed to be a Deck creator.  Have a look at YVD if you want some online duel software.

It would be nice if at some point a program was created that simulated the playing field, perhaps with a dummy opponent (using blank cards, and you can change those blanks to actual cards).  It'd probably be used in conjunction with MSN or another IM program.  It'd be the intermediate step between Deck Studio and YVD.  Of course, having an online duel program you load your Deck Studio Deck into, and play directly against a real opponent, would be great too.  Might take some doing, though.  Game mechanics to be added if/when you want, DJ Wink.

hehe, well, those items have been in the think tank for a while. 8^D

I plan on having an enhanced deck simulator for the 2.0 version of Deck Studio. In a sense there will be another tab in the program with a play field that will allow you to do just that: Draw your hand plop down a Mystic Tomato, then slide it over to the graveyard to simulate destruction, pick a card from your deck, auto shuffle after that, rinse repeat, etc.

There were some "delusions of grandeur" floating around in my head about having an "opposing side as well" Once the functionality is in place, it isn't too hard to have a mirror of things and you could specify a second deck to load as your "opponent".

While an online dueling program based off of Deck Studio isn't out of the question, it is still a little ways away. However, if you haven't seen it yet, there is a YVD Pack that is based off of the TCR, so you can easily export your deck and run it in YVD, unlike before.

I'm glad you finally got a chance to give Deck Studio a test drive Krishna, and keep all comments, good/bad/ugly flowing! 8^D
