two questions, nightmare penguin and turn priority of effects

Hi two questions.  Is Nightmare penguin considered a flip effect? (does crossout remove all copies?)If there are two six samurai monsters on the field of the turn player, one of them being zanji, and zanji attacks a face down nightmare penguin, how do the effects resolve? does the defending player's effect become step 2 allowing the return of a six samurai monster before zanji can get his effect, or does zanji become step 2 and destroy nightmare and then the defending player gets to select a monster to return?thx in advanceSC
